While every kid and situation is unique, here is what you might expect:
When first using a calming skill, you can feel an immediate difference in how calm you feel. At first, kids will need to be guided through the skills while already calm to effectively learn them.
After a few weeks of practice, the skills will start to feel more natural and kids might be able to use the skill during times of high emotions if prompted.
After a few months, kids may begin to use the calming skills without prompting and before emotions become too overwhelming.
